Azia Ellis-Singleton

Azia is the owner of The Moments Between Us, a photography and videography business. She had an idea that wasn’t perfectly formed. Azia wanted to support local black businesses and provide resources for people who wanted to do the same.

Being from a family who grew up here, she hopes to continue in that legacy by supporting, growing, and reaching goals within our black small business community. Her first goal was to see this directory grow within our city without expending excess finances and her next goal for the directory is to see the community use the resource as a common household discussion topic.

Azia believes we have a voice and buying power. We didn’t just obtain it, we’ve always had it. That matters. It should matter to everyone.

Her favorite thing about this city is Loudmouth Books. It’s always a great place to meet people, sit by yourself, or hang out with friends.

I met Azia while we were both students at Ball State University. She’s always been involved, caring, and passionate. When I saw the start of her plans unfolding on social media for an Indianapolis black owned business directory, I thought it would fill an important community need and offered my support. I know how much hard work goes into maintaining a website from my time working at Nuvo Newsweekly.

I’ve always believed in small businesses as the lifeblood of a community. They support local newspapers, charities, and causes. They deserve our support as well. My goal for this website is to listen to black business owners and the users of our website and strive to provide them a beneficial resource that meets their needs.

Personally, I will expand my knowledge of black owned businesses in Indianapolis and become an enthusiastic customer. My favorite Indianapolis event is GenCon which I attend every year and I love walking the Mass Ave and Fountain Square main streets. Outdoor seating is my favorite part of summer.

Robin G. Jackson

Robin G. Jackson is a Doctoral Candidate in the Urban Education Studies at Indiana-University-Purdue University-Indianapolis. Robin is also the Products Coordinator and a Doctoral Research Assistant at the Midwest and Plains Equity Assistance Center. Robin’s previous experience in youth-serving organizations rests heavily in after-school and summer programming across all ages with youth who have been marginalized.

Dedicated to all things Black, Robin wanted to create a master list of Indianapolis' restaurants to not only make it easier to access for individuals who want to patronize these businesses, but she is also all about stimulating and circulating the Black dollar. Besides--nothing brings people together quite like food!

Her favorite part of Indy is the Village that she's been able to cultivate, being able to tap into Black Indy for supports, wants, and needs..
